Day 2 :
Drive to Kasese
Embark on an early 7-hour drive to Kasese, situated at the foot of the Rwenzori National Park. Enjoy an overnight stay at Margherita Hotel. Meals: Breakfast (B)
Day 3 :
Kasese to Nyabitaba Hut
After breakfast, transfer to the road head for porters’ allocation and load distribution. Begin your climb through farmland and steeply ascend to Nyabitaba Hut (2,650 meters), set in a forested ridge with views of Portal Peaks and Mubuku Valley. Meals: Full Board (FB)
Day 4 :
Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut
Cross the Bujuku/Mubuku Rivers and ascend to John Matte Hut (3,415 meters), located in a grove of giant heather. Meals: Full Board (FB)
Day 5 :
John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut
Traverse the Bigo Bog to reach Lake Bujuku and Bujuku Hut (3,977 meters). Wellies are recommended as the bog can be muddy, despite a wooden plank causeway. Meals: Full Board (FB)
Day 6 :
Bujuku Hut
Choose between climbing Mount Speke, hiking to view Irene Lakes, or resting for the day. Return to Bujuku Hut for the night. Meals: Full Board (FB)
Day 7 :
Bujuku Hut to Elana Hut
Ascend to Elena Hut (4,543 meters), the highest point trekkers can reach before climbing Mount Margherita. Meet descending climbers and prepare for the final ascent. Meals: Full Board (FB)
Day 8 :
Elana Hut to Kitandara Hut
Begin early for the ascent of Mount Margherita (5,109 meters), Africa’s third-highest peak. Use crampons and ice axes for the glacier crossing. Enjoy views of all major Rwenzori summits and the rainforest in the Democratic Republic of Congo before descending to Kitandara Hut (4,027 meters), known for its stunning lake views. Day 9 :
Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut
Climb steeply over the Freshfield Pass (4,280 meters) before descending to Guy Yeoman Hut (3,506 meters), set in the giant heather zone. Meals: Full Board (FB)
Day 10 :
Guy Yeoman Hut to Kasese
Descend steeply through the bamboo zone to Nyabitaba Hut, then transfer to Kasese. Enjoy an overnight stay at Margherita Hotel, with the option for a refreshing cold beer or hot shower. For those with time constraints, a transfer to Entebbe airport for nighttime flights can be arranged. Meals: Full Board (FB) Accommodation: Margherita Hotel
Day 11 :
Kasese to Entebbe
Enjoy a morning game drive or an optional visit to see chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge (must be booked in advance). Return to Entebbe for an overnight stay at Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel. Meals: Breakfast (B) Accommodation: Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel
Day 12 :
Flight Back to Nairobi
Fly back to JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) for your onward journey.
